A Teacher’s Window
Yesterday –
I prayed for it.
A moment of clarity
In all my confusion.
A light
To send away the fears.
Just one little sign,
Please God,
That I’m meant to be
Here.
I don’t know
How to reach their hearts,
Now
That they’ve hardened mine.
Yet, I prayed.
As they tore down my confidence,
I built up a wall.
My tears fell
And their selfish eyes turned away,
Away from the silence I felt –
Yesterday.
Today –
I saw it.
A glimmer of hope,
A redeeming quality,
The reason we do what we do.
They were excited to create,
Impatient to share,
Proud of their work.
I saw it
And something inside me broke.
The wall I’d constructed
was meant for protection.
But today,
I was happy to see through a window,
A window put there just for me.
Thank you God,
For the connection we made –
Today.
